Wednesday, 29 December 2021. Duro Felguera, a Spanish company specializing in the delivery of turnkey projects and the provision of specialized services in the traditional and renewable energy, bulk handling, oil & gas, energy storage, new technologies and smart systems sectors, has been awarded a contract with the German engineering company TGE Marine Gas Engineering GmbH, for the manufacture of two 6,000m3 bi-lobe cargo tanks to hold Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) for a bunkering vessel.

The contract has been signed by DF Calderería Pesada, S.A. (DFCP), which will be responsible for the mechanical design, workshop manufacture and factory testing of the two containers, made of special alloys to withstand the very low temperatures required for LNG storage (-163ºC).

The vessel will be built by Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding for the US company Crowley as the owner and will be operated on a long-term charter basis with Shell NA LNG, LLC. The 12,000 m3 vessel that will operate with these two tanks will be the largest of its kind ever built in the United States. It is expected to begin operations in 2024 on the east coast of the country.

The shipping sector is moving rapidly towards decarbonization and LNG offers great potential for reduction in emissions compared to traditional fuels. Its use as a bunker fuel is increasing every year.

This agreement between DFCP and TGE Marine establishes the possibility for the two companies to continue collaborating on future LNG projects.
