Friday, 15 October 2021. Duro Felguera, a Spanish company specializing in the delivery of turnkey projects and the provision of specialized services in the traditional and renewable energy, bulk handling, oil & gas, energy storage, new technologies and smart systems sectors, has been awarded, through its subsidiary DF Calderería Pesada S.A. (DFCP), a new contract with the Italian engineering company Saipem S.p.A. for the manufacture of 12 pressure vessels for the extraction of natural gas in the new extension of the North Field of Qatargas, on the coast of Qatar.
DFCP will design and manufacture the 12 vessels, known as “topsides” as they are installed on offshore platforms. The rigorous working conditions of the equipment require a precise process design and manufacture has to be carried out entirely in special nickel-based steel grades.
The North Field of Qatar is, with a surface area of over 6,000 square kilometres, one of the largest natural gas fields in the world, with recoverable reserves of more than 900 trillion standard cubic feet, approximately 10% of the world’s currently known reserves.
